How coastal communities are adapting to rising seas naturally with Living Shorelines
Homeowners and towns along the U.S. East Coast are increasingly building “living shorelines” to adapt to sea level rise and boost wildlife habitat in a more economical and less carbon-intensive way than concrete seawalls. These projects protect shorelines using a clever mix of native plants, driftwood, holiday trees, and other organic materials.
Peter Slovinsky, a coastal geologist with the Maine Geological Survey, joins the Mongabay Newscast to discuss the benefits of living shorelines, how they are implemented in his state, and what other techniques coastal communities should consider in a world with a warming climate and rising seas.

Experts warn bird flu poses ‘an existential threat’ to biodiversity, and a possible threat...

The current clade of H5N1 or bird flu is an "existential threat" to the world’s biodiversity, experts say. While it has infected more than 500 bird and mammal species on every continent except Australia, the number of human infections from the current clade (grouping) 2.3.4.4b is still comparatively small. U.S. dairy workers have recently become infected, and the virus could easily mutate to be...

An everyday person can buy up land and restore it. Land by the coast in the usa is costly and many people might end up selling that is why growth boundaries that know and value preservation are so needed.

Glad Mongabay is paying attention to West Papua these days, but keep in mind calling this "Indonesia" is contentious. The people who live here have been denied a fair process of self-determination, which is an internationally recognized basic right. This political reality is entangled with the ecological destruction that's taking place there in so many ways.

It should be made very clear in this video that this megaproject takes place in West Papua, on the island of New Guinea. Although Indonesia claims this territory, it has obtained the land illegally and many Papuans want their own country or a fair self-determination process. This megaproject is not just an ecological disaster, but one of many tools of oppression that the Indonesian government uses against Papuans (and has previously used in other areas such as Aceh, Kalimantan, and Moluccas).

Hahaha, that was all murikan propaganda, the colonizers do not want the natives to progress and take back their own resources. If anyone or anything is hurting Mexico's ecology is the murikan oligarchs paying the murikan presidents to get what they want. And they want to pollute and ransack Mexico to oblivion

Humans are just so puzzling. We have all the knowledge/ability to have a safe/abundant/secure/robust biosphere, and yet we just trash it with impunity, and no one talks about it in the nightly news. So bizarre.

I’m dealing with an enormous environmental crime in Delaware committed by the government. A factory is abusing the public wastewater facilities. The Department of Natural Resources is totally corrupt and the DOJ is covering for them. EPA is just as bad. Nothing I do to get help or expose them is working. People are being severely harmed.

So dishonest. You put on same level the somehow small land that they did aquire as publicly and as legally as they could, which they farm with basic tractors for diversity of vegetables, from big corpos that cut of woods constantly leaving deserts behind illegally. I bet their leader who you pretend to not have found actually told you the truth. It's nasty and easy to find scapegoats to hide real issues.
